An update regarding Covid-19
We are aware that these uncertain times can be tough. But we are here to support you, chat to you and get you out and about, if and when we can and if you are not self-isolating at home.
Here are a few points that are important to know:
We are monitoring the Coronavirus situation and Government and Surrey University guidance, and at the moment we will continue with our events as planned.
We are aware that many of you will be here during the break in April. That’s why we have planned a whole lot of fun events you can check out on our app (Friends International), our Facebook page (/FriendsIntlG4d) and website.
Please do not come to any event if you have a cough or high temperature or have a health vulnerability. If we need to cancel events we will contact all those who have booked and update our website and app to let you know.
If you have coronavirus symptoms of a new continuous cough or high temperature you must follow the latest Government advice (12th March 2020) to stay at home for 7 days. (Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. You do not need to contact 111 to tell them that you are staying at home. Only use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, your condition gets worse or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/)
If you are not self-isolating consider being hosted by a local family for a meal! For more info check out: https://www.friendsinternationalguildford.org.uk/students or “Find a host” on the app.
Don't get isolated (even if you have to self-isolate).
This is also a time of great potential loneliness. It's important to stay connected with other people and to communicate well, even if you have to self-isolate for a while. Do pick up the phone and let us or a friend know if you have to stay at home for a while. We are here to chat (on the phone or online) and work out how we can support you in this challenging time. You are not alone!
Take this unusual time as a rare gift to invest into relationships in an unhurried way. Write letters, play board games, arrange regular facetime hangouts etc.
Let’s make the best out of this time, even if it means we all need to stay inside. We still can communicate online and do group chats.
If you are feeling anxious, bored or just want to chat to someone, please do get in touch with myself (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Phil Duncalfe (email@example.com). We are super happy to meet you in person or catch up on the phone.
The whole Friends International team is praying for you all!
All the best,
